Ironset Boston Concrete Construction

About our Boston concrete contractor business

We're a concrete contractor in Boston who works out why old concrete failed before pouring new, so the driveway, steps or slab we build holds up.

Curving concrete driveway with scored panels leads through a wooded, landscaped yard toward a gray house.

Why I started building concrete in Boston

I spent years doing upkeep for a property management company, patching steps, walks and slabs on rental buildings around Boston. The same spots kept breaking, and I got hooked on working out why. Usually it wasn't the surface at all. It was a base that was raked flat instead of dug out and packed, or water with nowhere to go.

I started Ironset Boston Concrete Construction in 2023 to build concrete work that doesn't need that kind of patching. We're best known for the awkward jobs, like a slab that keeps cracking or a wall that holds water behind it. Most of our calls come from homeowners, small landlords and property managers, and we're licensed and fully insured.

What I care about most is the part of a job nobody sees once it's poured: the base, the drainage and the prep. Those decide how concrete holds up, so I'd rather explain a tricky problem in plain words and get it right than hand you a quick number.

How we run a concrete job

Every job starts with me on site and a plan for what goes under the concrete. Then our crew forms, pours and finishes it, and we clean up before we leave.

  • First visit on site

I come out and write the estimate myself, so the person who quotes your job answers your questions. If something can't be known until the old slab is out, I'll say so up front.

  • Base first, then the pour

Our crew digs out and packs the ground under the slab and sets the slope so water runs away from your house. Then we pour and finish, with me working alongside them.

  • Joints, curing and clean-up

We cut grooves called control joints while the slab is fresh, so any crack runs where we chose, and tell you how long to stay off it as it cures. Then we clean up before leaving.

What you can expect from our concrete work

  • No paying twice

Before we pour anything new, we work out why your old concrete cracked, sank or held water, so you aren't paying to fix the same problem twice.

  • Quotes you can compare

Our quotes spell out what goes under and behind the concrete, because that's where two quotes usually differ most, and the base is the first corner cut to save money.

  • Help with the permit

When your job needs a permit, we help line it up before work starts. In Boston, building permits come from the city's Inspectional Services Department, and if it's unclear whether you need one, we ask them instead of guessing.
